In April 2015 Global-MSI completed the installation of a canopy and sales building at BP’s Foley Service Station in Walsall. The design and installation method of the canopy structure was completely dictated by the presence of high-voltage power cables directly above the forecourt.
The canopy columns could not be located on the pump islands in the traditional way but had to be moved to the perimeter of the canopy, dictating the use of large castellated beams due to the large open spans between columns. Use of a crane was not permitted, so all steelwork was lifted into position with telehandlers.
The convenience store was supplied with a steel frame, composite roof panels, fire-wall panels to the rear boundary, turret cladding, shopfront glazing, doors and roller shutters.
