In July 2014 Global-MSI supplied another modular canopy for Shell at their petrol station in Allestree, north of Derby. In contrast to previous modular canopies, this structure was designed with 4.5m wide modules, fully assembled with steel, guttering, sheeting, fascias and image signs under factory conditions in Doncaster. The wider modules reduced the number of construction joints, reduced material usage and increased the speed of installation, all reducing cost.
As an additional cost saving and safety improvement measure the canopy gutters were located at the edges of the canopy. This will allow future maintenance of gutters to be carried out from powered access equipment adjacent the canopy, rather than by engineers climbing onto the canopy roof.
